God’s witness is never flawed. It is miraculously inerrant because it is the record of the true God Who cannot lie and Who cannot make mistakes. His Word is perfect because He is perfect. This morning we want to take a look at the doctrine of Inspiration. In doing so, we will look at other texts of Scripture together with our text here in 2Peter. This way we will get a fuller understanding of the miracle that is the Bible.
The gospel message and the letters of the Apostles are not myths. They are facts based upon a real person. Peter reminds us that he was an eyewitness of both Jesus as a man, and Jesus as Almighty God shining in all the brightness of heaven’s glory in His transfiguration on Mt. Hermon. Peter saw the shekinah glory of God the Father and heard His voice declare, “This is my beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased.” The answer to life’s big questions and life’s problems is not found in some religion or philosophical contemplation. The answer is a person, and that person is Jesus Christ.

If you don’t care to diligently work at growing the 7 spiritual qualities that Peter lists in verses 5-7 in your life. Instead, you frivolously mosey through your Christian life, you will miss out on one of the greatest blessings of the Christian life: Assurance of salvation. So, if we ignore Peter’s admonition in the first 8 verses, we will suffer the consequence described in verse 9
Many people today talk about their faith, but it is often a faith separate from Jesus Christ. It is not Bible faith and is more like the idolatrous philosophy of the power of positive thinking. There is great power in a focused mind and a fixation of the positive, but it is not Bible faith. When we talk about faith, we are talking about a faith that is placed in a person, the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:6 provides a foundation for the life of faith.
The natural tendency for us is to allow trials and hard times to make us give up. Every child of God will endure difficult and trying times in life. Whether it be chastisement for sin or the trial of our faith, it is meant for our good. We must press on and not give up. Our text reminds us of God’s purpose in chastening and admonishes us with our responsibility to the Lord’s chastening.
